Teaching Textiles

Teaching Textiles

Along with being a Boutique and Gallery, we are also a Textile Learning Center. So this month we’re shining a spotlight on textile art. We’re proud to welcome Western Washington University’s Textile Art Program students’ work as our March exhibit Softcore! Come by and see what they’re up to and enjoy their work throughout the entire month. This exhibit is free and open to view during our regular boutique hours.

Monster Bunny

We’ll also be doing some textile teaching of our own and are offering several sewing and textile art classes during March. Classes all have our textile theme though vary from how to buy fabric from a fabric store to pattern making and even copying your favorite garment without taking it apart! (Click here to view March Class Calendar)

You can learn how to print a photograph onto fabric (Cyanotype – AMAZING!), make your own wool hat or get ‘goofy’ (because we’re like that at Social Fabric…) and make a monster bunny!

Throw in our SEWcial (free) and Kids SEW STRONG clubs which meet monthly in our sewing studio, Social Fabric is where Bellingham and Whatcom County come to learn how to sew and explore textile art. We’re always looking for local artists to showcase and enjoy meeting fellow designers. Please come by and see us near the corner of Holly and Commercial, in the parkade building.
